Land Rover Defender · Car radio

Land Rover Defender Android screen & radio upgrade, generation by generation.

Radio King does head unit upgrade on every Land Rover Defender generation we see: L316 Tdi / Td5 (1990–2006): DAB radio or a compact Android unit in the single-DIN slot, with a screen that sits proud of the shallow pod; speakers and wiring made good where the truck had none; L316 Puma (2007–2016): Android screen made for the Puma centre dash in the single-DIN position, or a DAB radio with Bluetooth for a working truck. From €290. Send your reg and we confirm the route and the price the same day.

Car radio on each Defender: how we do it.

Find your years in the first two columns. The factory system decides the route, and the route decides the price — send the reg if you are not sure which one you have.

FAQ

Land Rover Defender car radio: questions people ask.

Answers for Defender owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.

Ask on WhatsApp
What fits in a Defender dash that has only a single-DIN slot?

Two options. A DAB radio with Bluetooth is the simple one and suits a working truck. A compact Android unit with a screen that sits proud of the dash gives wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, DAB and a reversing camera input, and fits both the pre-2007 pod and the Puma centre dash. We make good the wiring and add speakers where the vehicle never had any.

Is there any point changing the radio in a 2020-on Defender?

No, and we do not suggest it. The L663 has Pivi Pro with CarPlay and Android Auto built in, and the screen is part of the climate and vehicle controls. What we do on those cars is wireless CarPlay, dash cams, speaker upgrades and a second camera for towing. The radio work on this page is for the classic and Puma Defenders.

How much does car radio cost on a Land Rover Defender?

It depends on the generation. L316 Tdi / Td5 (1990–2006): from €290; L316 Puma (2007–2016): from €290. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.

Which Land Rover Defender years can have car radio?

L316 Tdi / Td5, built 1990–2006 (Single-DIN radio in the dash pod or centre console, no screen; many trucks had no radio at all when new): DAB radio or a compact Android unit in the single-DIN slot, with a screen that sits proud of the shallow pod; speakers and wiring made good where the truck had none. L316 Puma, built 2007–2016 (Single-DIN Land Rover CD radio in the new centre dash, no screen): Android screen made for the Puma centre dash in the single-DIN position, or a DAB radio with Bluetooth for a working truck.

How long does car radio take on a Land Rover Defender?

Two to three hours, usually the same day on the Land Rover Defender L316. You can wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

What stays factory when you fit car radio on a Land Rover Defender?

On every Defender we work on — L316 — the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and speakers, the reverse camera and the climate controls stay; the new unit adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB and a camera input.

Do I need to book car radio for my Land Rover Defender, and is there a warranty?

Yes — send the reg or the year and generation (L316) on WhatsApp or the form below, and we confirm the route, the price and the next free slot. The work carries a one-year warranty, and the workshop is in Rosemount Business Park, Dublin 11, Monday to Saturday.
