Tesla Model 3 upgrades, generation by generation.

Everything Tesla built in: the screen, the reversing camera, the ultrasonic sensors on cars that have them, Sentry Mode and the software updates. We add alongside, not instead, and we wire only on the 12 V side, never near the high-voltage battery. The CarPlay box, the lighting and the sensors all come out again without a trace if the car is ever sold.

Highland and late refresh cars, because Tesla dropped the ultrasonic sensors from late 2022 and many owners want rear sensors with a proper beeper back, and because the Highland's ambient strip invites footwells and door pockets to match. Pre-refresh cars mostly come for the CarPlay box and for speaker upgrades on Standard Range Plus cars with the empty positions.

Most Model 3 jobs take two to four hours: the CarPlay box under an hour, an ambient kit or a set of sensors a morning, speakers half a day. You can wait at the Dublin 11 workshop, and there is a charger nearby if you want to top up while the car is with us.

Pre-refresh — 2019–2020: 15-inch touchscreen on MCU2 (Intel Atom); ultrasonic parking sensors and a reversing camera from the factory; no CarPlay or Android Auto on any Tesla. Refresh — 2021–2023: 15-inch touchscreen on MCU2, then MCU3 (AMD Ryzen) from 2022; ultrasonic sensors dropped from late 2022 builds (Tesla Vision); still no CarPlay. Ambient lighting: App-controlled LED kits on pre-refresh and refresh cars, footwells added to the Highland strip. CarPlay: CarPlay and Android Auto through a browser-based box on the factory screen, or a slim dash display. Parking sensors: A rear-only kit of four bumper sensors with an audible warning, no screen display. Speakers: Plug-in door and dash speakers with the factory amplifier kept; empty positions filled on Standard Range cars. Reversing camera: Factory on every car, so nothing to retrofit; a tow-bar camera on its own monitor for trailer work. Car radio: Larger Android screen with the factory buttons and amplifier kept, where the original display is too small. Dash cam: Hardwired on the 12 V side with a cut-off for the small 12 V battery, parking mode included. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

Ambient lighting: two to four hours. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Parking sensors: two to three hours. Speakers: two to four hours depending on how many speakers are changed. Most Model 3 owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.

Steering-wheel buttons, factory amplifiers and cameras are carried over on every route; the only route that changes what you see is an Android screen, and even then the controls are kept.
