Radio King does CarPlay and Android Auto retrofit on every Subaru Outback generation we see: BP (2003–2009): Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in the double-DIN opening; McIntosh cars keep the amplifier through an adapter; BR (2009–2014): Android screen with CarPlay and Android Auto in place of the CD radio or the Kenwood nav, steering-wheel buttons kept; BS (2015–2020): 2018-on cars have factory CarPlay and get a wireless adapter; 2015–2017 cars take a CarPlay interface on the 7-inch Starlink where the unit supports one, otherwise an Android screen; BT (2021 on): Factory CarPlay and Android Auto on the portrait screen; a wireless adapter is the usual job. From €250 incl. VAT. Send your reg and we confirm the route and the price the same day.
Find your years in the first two columns. The factory system decides the route, and the route decides the price — send the reg if you are not sure which one you have.
| Generation | Years | Factory system | How we do it | From (incl. VAT) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BP | 2003–2009 | 6-CD Subaru radio in a double-DIN opening; a Kenwood-built nav on some 3.0R cars; McIntosh audio on some Japanese imports | Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in the double-DIN opening; McIntosh cars keep the amplifier through an adapter | from €290 |
| BR | 2009–2014 | CD radio with a small display; Kenwood-built touchscreen nav on SE NavPlus cars; a factory amplifier on some | Android screen with CarPlay and Android Auto in place of the CD radio or the Kenwood nav, steering-wheel buttons kept | from €290 |
| BS | 2015–2020 | 7-inch Starlink touchscreen on 2015–2017 cars; 8-inch Starlink with CarPlay and Android Auto from the 2018 update; Harman Kardon on Premium trims | 2018-on cars have factory CarPlay and get a wireless adapter; 2015–2017 cars take a CarPlay interface on the 7-inch Starlink where the unit supports one, otherwise an Android screen | from €250 |
| BT | 2021 on | 11.6-inch portrait Starlink with CarPlay and Android Auto; Harman Kardon on the top trim | Factory CarPlay and Android Auto on the portrait screen; a wireless adapter is the usual job | from €250 |
Book the CarPlay install, let us photograph the finished car for a case study, and you get a discount on the fitting. Every Outback owner after you gets a real example to look at.
Outback CarPlay first, then other Subaru work from the Dublin 11 workshop: what was fitted and what changed on the dash.
Supply-only with delivery across Ireland, or fitted at our Dublin 11 workshop with the fitting booked at checkout.
Generation-by-generation guides first, then everything else the workshop does on a Subaru.
Answers for Outback owners. Something else? Message us on WhatsApp — we usually reply in under 5 minutes.
Ask on WhatsAppIf it has the 8-inch Starlink from the 2018 update, yes, and a wireless adapter makes it cable-free. 2015 to 2017 BS cars with the 7-inch Starlink never had it in the software; on those a CarPlay interface feeds CarPlay into the factory screen where the unit supports one, otherwise an Android screen replaces it. BP and BR cars get an Android screen either way.
Yes. On a Japanese-import BP with McIntosh the Android screen is fitted with an amplifier adapter so the factory amp and speakers keep working at the right balance. On the BS and BT with Harman Kardon we leave the Starlink unit in place and add a wireless adapter, which does not touch the audio path at all.
It depends on the generation. BP (2003–2009): from €290; BR (2009–2014): from €290; BS (2015–2020): from €250; BT (2021 on): from €250. Fitting is done at our Dublin 11 workshop — send the reg and we confirm the exact price before you book.
BP, built 2003–2009 (6-CD Subaru radio in a double-DIN opening; a Kenwood-built nav on some 3.0R cars; McIntosh audio on some Japanese imports): Android screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto in the double-DIN opening; McIntosh cars keep the amplifier through an adapter. BR, built 2009–2014 (CD radio with a small display; Kenwood-built touchscreen nav on SE NavPlus cars; a factory amplifier on some): Android screen with CarPlay and Android Auto in place of the CD radio or the Kenwood nav, steering-wheel buttons kept. BS, built 2015–2020 (7-inch Starlink touchscreen on 2015–2017 cars; 8-inch Starlink with CarPlay and Android Auto from the 2018 update; Harman Kardon on Premium trims): 2018-on cars have factory CarPlay and get a wireless adapter; 2015–2017 cars take a CarPlay interface on the 7-inch Starlink where the unit supports one, otherwise an Android screen. BP: the display is replaced, but the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and the climate controls are kept. BR: the display is replaced, but the steering-wheel buttons, the factory amplifier and the climate controls are kept.
