MINI Countryman upgrades, generation by generation.

F60 cars from 2017 to 2023, mostly for CarPlay coding on NBT Evo and a factory-look reversing camera, with a fair number of plug-in hybrids among them. R60 owners come in for a CarPlay box on Visual Boost or an Android screen in the dial. U25 cars are new enough that the work so far is cameras.

Nearly. The R60 shares its Boost, Visual Boost and navigation units with the R56 hatch, and the F60 shares NBT and NBT Evo with the F56, so the CarPlay and camera routes are the same. The differences are the tailgate, where the camera and its cable run sit, and the plug-in hybrid F60, where everything is wired from the 12-volt side. The U25 matches the F66 and J01 in the same way.

R60 — 2010–2016 (Countryman; the R61 Paceman shares the dash): Boost CD radio in the centre dial; Visual Boost with a 6.5-inch screen or the MINI navigation system (CIC-based) in the same dial on higher-spec cars. F60 — 2017–2023 (Countryman and the plug-in hybrid Cooper S E ALL4): MINI Boost radio with a 6.5-inch screen or MINI Navigation with NBT on 2017 cars; NBT Evo (ID5/ID6) with a 6.5 or 8.8-inch touchscreen from 2018, wireless CarPlay as a factory option. Reversing camera: Factory camera coded in on the F60 and U25; video interface or mirror monitor on the R60. CarPlay: A box on R60 screens, coding on F60 NBT Evo, a box on 2017 F60 units, factory CarPlay on the U25. Car radio: Android screen in the centre dial on the R60 and Boost radio F60 cars; NBT Evo and MINI OS 9 stay. Ambient lighting: Ambient LED kits in doors and dash, extended factory ambient on newer cars, app controlled. Speakers: Plug-in door speakers and tweeters, factory head unit and amplifier kept, no cutting. Parking sensors: Colour-matched sensors with a factory-style tone, shown on the screen where the car supports it. Dash cam: Hardwired on the 12 V side with a cut-off for the small 12 V battery, parking mode included. Subwoofer: Under-seat or boot subwoofer on a DSP amplifier fed from the factory unit, boot space kept. Soundproofing: Doors and floor treated with butyl and foam, trim refitted without marks.

Reversing camera: two to three hours. CarPlay: under an hour for activation, two to four hours for a box or a screen. Car radio: two to three hours, usually the same day. Ambient lighting: two to four hours. Most Countryman owners wait at the workshop or drop the car in the morning and collect it the same day.
